Announcement: The ghost is evolving

In the next times, I’ll make this little website to evolve a bit. I’ve started it as a little place where to put my thoughts… but know that it’s having its little share of success, it’s time to change something. I mean, I’m not UploadVR, but I thought that not even my parents would have read my posts… and instead I discovered that there are people finding what I write interesting! That’s surprising…

It’s time to make this website to evolve from a baby stage to a teenager one… so, in the next days you may experience same strange things when exploring this website… your head may even explode.

But don’t worry, The Ghost Howls will come back stronger than ever! In the meantime, continue supporting me!

Immotionar VR startup shuts down: f**k you all.

With the classical “thank you all” post, the adventure of my virtual reality startup Immotionar has closed. We tried to push virtual reality beyond its limits for 3 years, adding full body of the user in the virtual world without worn sensors, but in the end we lost the battle.

I made such a strong title for this post not because I hate you (I love you, my readers!) but to mock all those thank-you-posts that are all full of hypocrisy: when you close your company, the last thing that you want to do is be kind and say “thank you to everyone”. When you close your startup, you feel sadness, anger, shame, emptiness: a mixture of all the worst feelings… the ones your mum has told you not to feel in your life. “F*ck everyone” is the title that every shut-down post should have… it would be more honest.

I’ll try to not make this failure useless, explaining you what I’ve learnt in these hard times. Especially I want to explain you:

  • The errors we’ve made, so you won’t make them as well;
  • How to recover psychologically from such a failure;

My next posts will be about that. It will hurt, but I hope that will help someone else in his/her journey for becoming an entrepreneur. Stay tuned.

Happy (virtual reality) Easter everyone!

I wish all of you, my amazing readers, to have a marvelous Easter with all your family and friends! If in your culture you don’t celebrate Easter, well, I wish you a fantastic April the 16th to live with all people you like the most.

Here we celebrate Easter opening chocolate eggs and eating lots of chocolate and tipical Easter cakes (like “Colomba”)… in a few days I’ll surely be 10kg heavier than now… but I’ll keep writing articles about virtual reality for sure!

Again, happy holiday! Hope you’ll like the photomontage I did 😀

The Ghost Howls celebrates 6 months and 100 articles!

This is the 100th post of this crazy virtual reality blog and it comes when my blog is exactly 6 months old (it has happened by chance… and it’s so cool!).

In this post I just want to say thank you to everyone that has come to my little place… maybe because was already a friend of mine, maybe because was looking for some VR info, maybe because Google drove him here, maybe because was looking for VR adult stuff and finished here by chance.

And a special thank you to people that didn’t only lurk, but that commented the posts or that contacted me on social media or via email. Talking with other VR passionates is the best part of being a blogger. If you haven’t ever contact me yet… come on, it’s the right moment now!

I’ve written a cool post on Medium about what I’ve learned in these six months… if you’re interested (of course you are!), this is the link.

I hope that you liked at least something of what I’ve written and that you will help me in continuing this adventure at least for other 6 months… I want to celebrate the first blog birthday in August!

I love you all… sincerely! 🙂

Happy Chinese new year!

Today is the Chinese New Year’s Eve, so happy new Chinese year everyone!

The coming one is the Rooster (Chicken) year and the Chinese Horoscope says explicitly that this means that 2017 will be a great year for virtual reality! 😀 😀 😀 So let’s do all our best to make this technology skyrocket!

Today if you go to WeChat and write 鸡年大吉 you will see lots of little chicks jumping on your screen! So cute!

我祝你们新年快乐!万事如意!!

Feedspot best 50 virtual reality blogs… I’m in!!

After being contacted by TechTyche for a similar reason some days ago, today I’ve received an email from Feedspot, saying that I’ve been selected in their list of 50 best virtual reality blogs! Wow, so happy about that! Thanks Feedspot! Continue reading “Feedspot best 50 virtual reality blogs… I’m in!!”

Meet me next weeks!

Hello everyone… if you are in Italy next weeks, come and meet me to talk about AR and VR! You can find me:

  • On January, the 21th, in Milan, Italy at Holo Dev Day event! We of Immotionar will make a little theorical session, with a fast introduction to Unity. The event is cool because it is focused on HoloLens and the audience will be able to try the devices!
  • On February, the 2nd, in Turin, Italy at Sognando La Realtà event (“Dreaming the reality”… it is really a cool name for an event!) organized by local GDG community. There we will make a little workshop where we’ll teach you the basics of Unity and gaze interactions for Cardboard headsets. At the event should be present a Daydream device, so it will be super interesting

Of course in both events we will showcase our full body VR ImmotionRoom solution: so, if you’re near here come and let’s have a chat about virtual reality!

Top 50 virtual reality websites of 2017

Great guys of TechTyche have made a list of top 50 virtual reality blogs of 2017. Their list is unordered and I guess that they’ve made it like this to not become enemies of anyone making a personal classification :D. I think that their list is very valuable because it is very long and includes a lot of important VR resources. They made a great job in condensing in only one place references to lots of very interesting VR blogs.

First of all it can be useful to you because you can find new websites to read VR news, opinions and tutorials: you can have a look at it and pick VR websites you haven’t heard before. The fact it is unordered is a bit a pity so you don’t get which ones are the most important resources where to find the most valuable infos, but, again, I understand their choice (ok, I’ll be a bit brave, UploadVR should be at first place and RoadToVR at the second one). If you are new to VR, you can scroll the list and discover websites where to start learning about this new amazing technology. Continue reading “Top 50 virtual reality websites of 2017”

First experiments with Oculus Touch!

Today I’ve made first experiments with Oculus Touch and their companion SDK! It’s been super-interesting and I’ve learnt really a lot! I’ve also had some fun, but I found that there are some obscure things that I had to learn with trials&errors… so in the new year I’ll make a tutorial just for you my dear readers!

In the meantime, enjoy this video showcasing the results of my experiments!
